Fleming's Learning Resource Centres
Sir Sandford Fleming College's Learning Resource Centre's are home to a variety of academic and learning supports designed to promote your success at Fleming. Whether you're entering college directly from high school or hitting the books after spending a number of years in the workforce, the Learning Resource Centre's can help you to get your academic career off to the best possible start.
You'll go there to access: learning materials (books, journals, periodicals, cd's, internet access); to book an appointment with a counsellor; to get help with your course work; or to arrange for assistance with a special need or disability.
Regardless of your program, or the campus at which you choose to study, you'll have plenty of opportunities to use the vast array of resources throughout your time at Fleming.
The Learning Resource Centre's put you in charge of your own learning, allowing you to study when and where you choose, using the methods that are best suited to your learning style.
That might mean completing a computer module in the Learning Commons, taking one of the College's growing number of internet-based courses, picking up the materials from a print-based distance education course that you can work on at home, or borrowing materials from the Library to assist with an assignment for a classroom-based course.
Learning Commons
The Learning Commons is an architecturally spectacular learning environment that includes more than 230 multimedia computer systems at Sutherland Campus and 120 similar work stations at Frost Campus. The Learning Commons is designed to provide opportunities for guided and self-directed learning and is fully staffed by faculty, support staff, technicians, and student tutors. It's where you go to work on a CD-ROM computer module course, or web-based course, access your e-mail, work on assignments, conduct research or access remedial software designed to build your skills in such core subject areas as communications and mathematics. It also contains study rooms and group learning rooms - everything you need to complete your course work.
Library & A/V Services
In the library you can access books, magazines, journals, and electronic media, including CD-ROM and internet based subscriptions. A/V Services offers a wide range of equipment, video conferencing, videos, slides and CD's.
