Natural Resources - Law Enforcement

  • Sioux Lookout District
  • Conservation Officer, C579

Although I came into the program with a degree in Wildlife Biology, I had no previous background in law enforcement and very little knowledge or experience with hunting, hunting techniques, or other natural resource harvesting such as the aggregate or forestry industry. The program helped me to understand the intent and application of resource related laws.

My favorite part of the program was the field exercises. Conducting a search warrant, deer decoy operation and investigating numerous natural resource violations was not only exciting, but it enabled me to apply my knowledge of resource related laws and to test my abilities to work as an enforcement officer. It was during these field exercises that I decided this was the career for me!

The program will provide you with a thorough introduction to legislation, investigative techniques, wildlife identification, crime scene analysis and conflict avoidance skills. It will also provide you with an opportunity to apply every bit of the information you learn in real to life scenarios that will test your knowledge and your abilities to work as an officer.

The program gave me the necessary skills, training and confidence to achieve my career aspirations of becoming a Conservation Officer with the Ministry of Natural Resources.
