My time at Fleming was life changing. I arrived as a relatively inexperienced young man with no friends or family in town. Yet, I understood the importance of an education and dedicated myself to experiencing all that Fleming had to offer; both in and outside of the classroom. I studied hard and also joined the varsity volleyball team.
My two years at Fleming College also helped build confidence. Before arriving I could not speak in front of an audience. Today, with the help of my teachers, I feel comfortable in front of large crowds. More importantly, I gained the confidence to believe that I am capable of handling any situation that I might find myself in.
In terms of the teachers, they were my biggest supporters and exceeded their primary roles as instructors. The teachers and program directors became my role models, mentors and friends.Whatever success I have experienced as a police officer can be attributed, in part, to the support and guidance I got from everyone at Fleming. I owe them a huge debt of gratitude.
Since graduating from Fleming College I have come to realize the value of my education. I have been a guest speaker at other colleges and have friends that have taken Police Foundations elsewhere. What I have learned is that the lessons and skills taught at Fleming College prepared me for my time at the Ontario Police College and in many ways were identical to the classes at O.P.C.
In the end, Fleming helped me realize my goal of becoming a police officer, a job that I love.
